I am worried a little about my girlfriend. She has been kind of distant. Her father just died and I want to know what i can do to help her. People tell me that I can't do anything to help her but I can be there for her. I knew her dad not too well but enough to make me cry. I mostly cried for her. She called me and told me on a school night so i went to her house and didn't go to school that day. She's just starting to get back to her old self. She only lets out her true feelings in front of me. She's showing some signs of what people do before suicide. I know this because when I was suicidal my counselor said that it would help me to read up on it because reading about it helps. She is kind of distant. What should I do?

Truthfully the only thing you can do is be there for her. She is going to take some time trying to get back to her old self, if that is, if she does. Change will happen in everyones lives, accepting it is the hardest thing to do though. So just help her take baby steps in the right direction. Guide her as much as possible, but let her also guide herself when she can.

Don't try to solve her problems, it won't help.
Remember that depressed people have an altered view of reality and logic won't work.

Just listen to her if she wants to talk, and be supportive. Even if its frustrating you have to avoid trying to solve her problems!!!

You should probably try not to mention her father's death to her.

Just comfort her. There's not much you can do, to be honest.

Or get her some help.
