Maybe the person who is under 18 and doesn't want to be aroudn smoke shouldn't go to places where it puts them at risk. If I don't want to get sick from smoke, I simply ask for take out.

so just b/c ppl r smoking i have to order take out instead of going out to eat?

Actually, yes. If it's a smoking restaurant and you don't want to be around smoke, then you should order take out. If you didn't want to be around naked bodies, then you wouldn't go to a strip club and order lunch, right?

Exactly how is it not regulated? People under 18 can't buy it.

it should be illegal

For everyone? Why? If the adult is well aware of the consequences, then they should be allowed to smoke if they want to. Yes it may cause death, but alcohol is a lot worse and if we look to history, we can see how well banning that worked. Also, war on drugs? Please.

Hm, so if I can't legally drink, I can walk up to people at a restaurant that I know serves alcohol and ask them to stop drinking because I don't want to be around people that are drinking?

thats a stupid question b/c if ur under 21 u cant go into an area that serves alcohol anyway. or the bar would be separated to keep ppl under age from entering the prohibited are which would be the area thats serving the alcohol

Um, yes you can. Maybe in Illinois it's different (but I doubt it), but where I live many restaurants serve alcohol. In fact, my mom and sister ordered drinks on Friday when we went to a Mexican restaurant and they drank the drinks right at the table. Bars and clubs are allowed to let people under 21 and 18 in, but because it's a lot harder to monitor under-age drinking, they don't allow them.

I can't drink and the people who are drinking could get drunk and start a fight or possibly run me over in the parking lot!

notice how they have laws against drinking and driving and security to break up fights not to mention the police (911)

True, you did get me on that part. However, I still say that people who are sick to second-hand smoke but still go to a restaurant or bar that allows smoking is stupid. Why? They know that they will get sick and yet they still go.

why r u hanging around drunk ppl anyway if u cant drink yourself? you've endangered ur own health right there. while me on the other hand would have no way of knowing that i'm gonna run into someone smoking on my way to school or something

And you can't be certain that you won't run into someone who has been drinking either. Do I hang around with drunk people? No. It's called using my imagination.

I am curious to know what you think about the restaurant owners' right to run their business. If people feel that strongly about smoke, chances are that they wouldn't eat there. However, we can assume that from years of business, there are people who don't mind smoke or enough smokers who support the business to keep the business open and should the owner be forced to change that?

Here, in buffalo, there is a law that there is no smoking allowed in resturants, bars, etc.
Only outside.
I think thats fine the way it is.

NECROPOST.

I know, but I was going to start one on the smoking ban in the UK and how it has been oddly effective.

Heres one ready made.

I always thought the slowly reducing nicotine levels in scotish cigs was the best way, but since the ban in public places (perticuly pubs) the 'coolness' of smoking has gone out the window.
There are only so many people you can see standing in the British winter before you just start to laugh at them.

I'm all for the ban in public places. I go to restaurants to eat... not to smell that disgusting crap.
