Today a man age 32 was raped less then 1km away form my house.I live in Tralee which is a big town in Ireland but stuff like that does not happen regulary. The whole town will know about it when it does. This is third in the past three weeks. It struck a question with me today that many have asked before, are we safe?
You can not walk anywhere by yourself now. People fear being alone so start a relationship with someone(whether friendly or romantical) just so they will not be alone. why? Because we feel the need to be loved. Who could blame us, there is so much hate in this world today that many people even question if there is love. I BELEIVE IN LOVE. I beleive fear is love turned back on itself.
Back to the main issue is that, how do we really know when to trust. Even if you spent everyday of your life for ten years with the same person, you still may not/would not know who they fully were.
Many people reading this may someday dream of having kids. I too love children but is this the life I want my child to have? and do I want to take the chance of giving birth to a child who could become the next mass rapist?
Have you ever asked yourself the same things I'm asking now? |

| in today's society we can never say for sure that anyone is "safe". in every place,no matter how small, something poses some kind of danger. there will always be someone that wants to pose a danger. Therefore it'a hard to ever really completely trust someone. many people put it out of their minds because maybe they live in a rich community and think that there's no way that they could be harmed. people need to realize the danger the world has in store for them. |

i really agree w/u. i feel somewhat safe where i live cuz i'm not that far from the police station, but still jus a few weeks ago the ppl upstairs from us said that somebody was tryin 2 break in an that jus scared the life out of me especially cuz we've only been living here since November. but other than that the neighborhood's not that bad; there's a school right across the street, an not much crime happens in school zone areas. but, where we used to live was completely terrible. its like ppl were gettin killed all the time. i lost one of my friends in that area an its really hard 4 me 2 go back over there(i would never go back but my brother an sister an their families still live there)someone even got shot right in front of the house; thats somethin i will never 4get. Can u imagine walkin outside an seein someone u know layin on the ground shot??? luckily, he didnt die but hes in a wheelchair now. i honestly hate goin back there. i've had some of my most horrific experiences while livin there, an i cant wait 4 my brother an sister 2 move out 2.
with the rape thing, i'm not sure if its like this in ireland but here a lot of feminists categorize rape as somethin that only a woman experienes; they make it seem as though only women r the victims of rape an i've never heard of anything more false as that. lots of time, men r raped especially in prisons which i think is so messed up. b/c of how they make rape seem here a lot of men in prison wont even admit that they've been raped. i jus recently wrote a paper about HIV/AIDS an prison rape was 1 of my sub-topics. in the U.S., 22% of inmates have been reportedly raped, and the # of confirmed AIDS cases among inmates is 3 an a half times the # of confirmed AIDS cases in the entire U.S. population. that is so crazy. its like nowhere is safe, an the guards dont try to stop it an 2 me thats the worst part about it cuz the ones who r supposed 2 help dont even care. personally, i think that rapin a man is 1 of the worst things that u can do 2 him; its like tearin away his pride an dignity.(not 2 say it doesnt do the same 2 women)rape is 1 of the worst things ever imagined whether it b a woman or a man. it is sick an immoral |

i agree w/u on the love thing. love does exist an u can think of it this way: wherever there's hate there is love an whereever there's love there is hate. this holds true 4 everythin in the world. everything has its opposite and they all exist together. and what u said about not knowin ppl is also true, but i believe that things like that happen 2 prepare u 4 the 1 who u r suppose 2 love 4 the rest of ur life; the person who u r suppose 2 marry. i think intuition will 1 day let u know when its safe 2 really trust. lots of time we confused what we want with what we actually need. |
