I hate to say it, but I'm not entirely sure what happened. It seems so sudden to me and I would have thought that I would have read something about it. Maybe I've been putting CNN off for ten days or something? It bothers me that they are saying that they are fighting 'terror.'
Wait, I recall watching something on the news about the navy using their ship(s) to bring citizens home from there. |

Hey, two years ago, there was a study that many American students couldn't place Iraq on a map.

| Israel has every right to these attacks. Lebanon commited an act of war. They did not disarm Hezbollah even though the UN told them too. they didnt ask for assistance. they embrassed the organization and made a coalition government with them. when Israel demand that Lebanon disarm Hezbollah (with Israeli help) this time around, they didnt accept. Lebanon clearly doesnt want Hezbollah disarmed and they are getting what they diserve |

I agree in some sense with what your saying Nojoy.
The problem however is much more complex than the media presents. Its not that the Lebanon government doesn't want to disarm Hezbollah, its that it lacks any method to do so. remember that only a few years ago the Lebanonese finally managed to get rid of occupying Syrian forces that had been there since 1982. With the departure of the syrian military all form of order was lost in lebanon as they finally realised they could finally rebuild. At the moment the government of Lebanon is made up of a member from each of the three main religions. Sunni, Shi'te and Maronite Christian each make up the government. Considering it was the ethnc tension between these three which started the Lebanon civil war, there isn't much co-operation on the government level, to run the country let alone disarm a militant group that has more armed men than the state army. The political has allowed Hezbollah to becomea virtual state onto itself. The Israeli attacks on Hezbollah targets are completely justified its to defend against constant attacks however, (this is where the issue becomes very grey) now hezbollah has taken cover behind the civilian populace. Not to offend with anyone of opposing views, but an land offensive is needed to finish off this terrorist camp. However due to past conflict between Lebanon and Israel this needs to be done on a very thin red line. Israel needs to stop its air attacks and move in quickly, in tune with a United Nations detachment. It needs to be done quickly before the crisis spreads, the air attacks are just villifying Israel in the international eye with attaks on pointless targets. Israel needs to move in before they turn the entire country against them, i'm sure the Lebanese are desiring peace as much as the israelis are.
ps. sry for such the long post |

Looks like the UN is finally going to do something, they finally approved unanimously to accept a proposed ceasefire agreement
-Full cessation of hostilities
-Israel to withdraw all of its forces from Lebanon
-Full control of Lebanon by the government of Lebanon
-No paramilitary forces, including (and implying) Hezbollah, will be south of the Litani River
not sure how successful this will be, can they be sure that hezzbollah can be stopped from any further attacks? anyway at least its a start to a long arduous process. |

Its a stupid plan and its not going to work. Its just going to allow Hezbollah to restock and attack Israel whenever they're ready. I doubt that Israel will go along with it. Of corse everyone is going to make a bug deal about it because its Israel doing the disobeying.
People always say "Oh look at big bad Israel. They aren't allowing humainarian workers into the worker". They do it for good reason. Two of the Israeli soldiers killed this week were killed by Hezbollah fighters in UN uniform. They wouldn't be able to tell the humanitarians from the terrorists. |

I haven't been bothered to follow the Israel situation, to be honest, but that doesn't seem fair at all. |
