In loose terms, they're trying to get Roe vs. Wade overturn. This bill does not have an exception for rape and incest, but it does have one for the mother's health (and I've heard that argued). We're not asking if abortion is right and wrong, but rather should this bill be passed or not. |

i think they should just go ahead and pass it if the majority of the ppl in South Dakota dont agree to abortion and want it banned then they should do it. doesnt majority rule in a democracy?
and nowadays, ppl too often, come up with these "what if" scenarios. what if this happened, what if that happened? how about we wait for those things to actually happen instead of trying to predict dooms' day. yeah, i know rape is tragic, but how often do women actually get pregnant from it? i think most of the time they have at least a shred of decency to wear a condom, its not like they know if she has a disease or not. i'm not trying to justify rape or anything b/c i think rapists should be burned at the stake, but there are at least 3 women in my immediate family who were raped, and none of them got pregnant. all im saying is that all these out of the ordinary "what if" situations need to stop b/c its getting outrageous. 1 day they'll be saying what if the stars fall outta the sky or something. its ridiculous.
personally, i dont think there should be any acception to abortion b/c then they'll want acceptions for every other law. what if they wanna make it okay to murder someone who murdered your mom or child or something? when u give ppl an inch they wanna take a mile...
but if a majority of the citizens want it done, then they should do it since majority rules.
cant the states make a law if it doesnt go along with the Constitution or is that Congress shall make no law they goes against state constitution? something like that, i forgot... |

| oh yeah, i heard something about Planned Parenthood covering up sex abuse or something like that. they have these tapes where this girl would call in and ask them to get an abortion, and she'd tell them something like she was raped and doesnt want anybody to know or that she's like 13 and her boyfriend is 24 and she wants an abortion, and they'd do it without reporting anything. arent they breaking some law called statutory rape right there or something? |

| Yes and no. It sort of depends on the states and whether or not parental consent is required to get an abortion. There's also the question about whether or not the minor has the right to privacy about their medical treatments. Since Planned Parenthood offers medical advice, some medicines, and counseling (I think), I think they're required to keep their patient's medical history confidential. |

thats stupid how they make laws that contradict with other laws. i listened to 1 tape, and the lady told the girl something about she doesnt need a parent's consent and that its confidential, but either way its still statutory rape if she's 13 and her boyfriend is 24.
some of these specific tapes werent girls who actually needed an abortion. u know how the police do investigations where they basically prank call to see what they'll say. so i dont know if they can make a case on crimes that are based on false allegations or not esp. since these ppl dont really exist. but they had hundreds of tapes. so i suppose if they got the same kinda response a hundred times when they called, the clinic must be giving real girls the same kinda response... |

| I think rape thing should count because that's just hideously not fair, but clicked submit before I read that or else I would have voted for that. |

| I heard on another message board that they voted down to include a special circumstance measure that allowed abortions for rape and incest. |

| So I heard on the news this morning that the governor signed the bill. I wouldn't want to be a pawn in a game of the state legislators trying to get the Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade. |
